Saturday 15th January, 2011
Over 100 people attended the Community Workshop run by the Rural Communities Council of Essex on 15 January, indicating that what happens in our village is very close to many people’s hearts. There was a good mix of opinions too, with ages ranging from under-11 to over 74, and from people who had recently moved here, to people who had lived in the village for over 25 years.
From the comments and observations made, it is clear that Feering is a special place to live. It has a village atmosphere, with green fields, a local school, a village church and river walk – semi-rural but close to a good range of facilities and transport links. Residents value the thriving community spirit, and the extensive range of activities available locally. Residents feel that all of this may be at risk of development but are also concerned that our younger generation may be forced out of the village due to the high cost of housing or the lack of availability. Increasing traffic, and the inadequacy of key road infrastructure (direct A12 access for Tiptree) causes problems in the village. Although there are low crime levels in the village, anti-social behaviour can be a problem. So there are plenty of issues to tackle.
These were the priorities identified at the workshop. A group of thirty volunteers has come forward develop The Plan. Part of their work will be a village consultation, to enable the views and opinions of all residents to be gathered. The group will regularly let you know how things are going. In the meantime, if you want any further information, please contact the parish clerk (01376 572882).
